‘Typical Allardyce’, ‘Joke’ – Many West Brom fans react to reported pursuit of 31y/o
West Brom boss Sam Allardyce is already making plans for the upcoming January window after his appointment on Wednesday.
The new Baggies arrival has told talkSPORT that the board is prepared to back him next month as they look to survive in the Premier League.
Slaven Bilic had fallen out with the board over their lack of funds over the summer, so it is suggested that Allardyce shouldn’t expect much.
Football Insider have reported on Thursday that the Albion are looking at Crystal Palace defender James Tomkins.
It is suggested that after the experienced defender has slipped down the pecking order at Selhurst Park, and that Allardyce is ready to tempt him with the switch.
The 31-year-old has yet to play a single minute in the Premier League so far this season, and could be deemed as surplus to requirements.
That would see Tomkins fit perfectly into the Albion budget, something which isn’t expected to be much in the upcoming window.
Tomkins has made 263 appearances in the Premier League across his career and would add valuable experience alongside Branislav Ivanovic.
That isn’t necessarily needed though, with Dara O’Shea and Semi Ajayi more than proving themselves against Manchester City this week.
Many West Brom fans have reacted to the reported move for Tomkins, and the majority couldn’t understand why the Baggies want another defender.
Some claimed that this is “typical Allardyce” and that the rest of the season didn’t hold much hope based on this latest rumour.
