Celtic target loan moves for West Brom duo in January, 22y/o could seal permanent exit – report
Celtic are set to make loan moves for West Brom pair Kyle Edwards and Rekeem Harper next month, according to the Scottish Sun.
The newspaper have reported on their website that Sam Allardyce is expected to bolster his own squad, making the two youngsters available for the switch.
Neil Lennon has been interested in Harper for some time, and the midfielder almost made the move to the Scottish giants before extending his stay at the Hawthorns.
Recruitment chief at Celtic Park, Nick Hammond previously worked with the Baggies and personally knows both Harper and Edwards.
Interestingly, the loan move may not be the only development.
It is reported that Edwards could leave the Hawthorns permanently in the summer should he be allowed to move on loan next month.
The 22-year-old’s current contract expires at the Hawthorns at the end of this season, and his limited opportunities could see him seal his exit.
Slaven Bilic claimed before he left that both would get the chance if they proved themselves, and never appeared to happen too often.
This loan move would certainly benefit both players.
Celtic aren’t in the best of places but are still within touching distance of Rangers, and both Edwards and Harper could help revitalise the Hoops.
Losing Edwards on a permanent deal would certainly be a big loss though, with his talent clear to see in his cameos this season.
The winger has averaged nearly five progressive runs per 90 minutes in the Premier League according to WyScout, and this loan move could help improve his final product, both in terms of crossing and finishing.
Edwards would get plenty more opportunities to run at his man and find the back of the net in Scotland, and this move could really bring out the best in him for next season and beyond with the Baggies.
