‘Garbage’, ‘Criminal’ – Many West Brom fans tear ‘slack’ player to shreds at half time v Villa
Some West Brom fans have heavily criticised Darnell Furlong after the defender failed to mark his man properly when Aston Villa took an early lead in Sunday’s Midlands derby.
Villa took the lead through Anwar El Ghazi early in the first half as Furlong failed to track his man, allowing the Dutchman to get on the end of an excellent cross.
This meant the Villa attacker was free to open the scoring as he casually poked the ball past Sam Johnstone.
It was the worst possible way for Sam Allardyce’s Baggies career to start and Furlong’s mistake gave his side a mountain to climb.
The defender’s first 45 minutes against Villa was generally poor as fans picked out Furlong’s poor aerial display.
Furlong lost several aerial duels in the first half as he failed to help his side out defensively without contributing too much to the Baggies’ attacking efforts.
Furlong recently wrote himself into many fans’ good books after he scored a cracking goal in the 2-1 loss to Newcastle United last weekend.
But, his good work seems to have come undone after his dreadful first-half performance against Aston Villa.
Here is how some West Brom fans reacted to Furlong’s first-half performance.

A huge improvement is needed from Furlong and West Brom in the second half as they look to get a positive result in this Midlands derby.
In other West Brom news, this Albion loanee has had his deal terminated early.
