Carragher and Neville make West Brom prediction after Allardyce appointment
Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville both expect West Brom to go down this season, despite the appointment of Sam Allardyce.
Speaking during Sky Sports’ coverage of Monday Night Football (Sky Sports, 7pm), the pair gave their predictions for the remainder of the Premier League season.
When asked to pick the three teams that would go on to be relegated this season, the Baggies featured for both pundits.
Both also believe that Sheffield United will join West Brom in the Championship alongside either Fulham or Brighton.
Carragher’s three picks are the current bottom three in the Premier League, while Brighton are just two points above Scott Parker’s side.
Bleak horizons for the Baggies
Much was made of Allardyce’s first game back in the Premier League and if that performance was anything to go by – it is going to be a huge task to keep this squad in the top flight.
For West Brom, the hope will be that more teams get dragged into a relegation dog fight, with Arsenal, Brighton and Burnley also lingering around the bottom three.
Allardyce needs to improve the Baggies at both ends of the pitch if he is to keep them up – no team has conceded more Premier League goals.
Albion also displayed zero attacking threat against Aston Villa last time around, recording a woeful x.G of just 0.02.
Allardyce has also alluded to a potential discipline problem at the Hawthorns, with the Baggies have three different players sent off this season.
The Baggies are level with Brighton as the club with the highest number of red cards in the Premier League – if Allardyce cannot trust his players to stand up in the crucial moments, the club risk making it harder for themselves to avoid to the drop.
