‘Start him’ – Many West Brom fans blown away by ‘Future star’ in U23s clash v Stoke
West Brom haven’t tasted much success in recent weeks, both in the senior side and with the under-23s.
That continued on Monday afternoon, as the young Baggies crashed to a 4-3 defeat against Stoke, a game in which they were four behind in at the break.
Deon Burton had numerous first-team players to choose from, with David Button, Lee Peltier, Cedric Kipre, Sam Field, Rekeem Harper, Kyle Edwards and Kamil Grosicki all starting.
That didn’t help though.
None of those senior options caught the eye, and it was in fact one of our academy stars that continued to shine ahead of those around him.
Cheikh Diaby has been the name on everybody’s lips recently, with the young Frenchman scoring four in his last four outings.
With the Baggies four goals behind, the pressure was on Diaby to put away an early penalty in the second-half and he did it with ease.
The forward is exuding confidence right now, and that is something the options in the first-team are not – especially Karlan Grant.
His opportunity against Manchester City last week proved that when he missed the easiest of chances to put the Baggies ahead.
Many West Brom fans have reacted to the performance of Diaby, claiming that there would be no harm in Sam Allardyce bringing him into the first-team squad.
Some even suggested that the youngster is a “future star” and is one to watch for the future at the Hawthorns – sooner rather than later they hope.
