Confirmed: Liverpool duo facing late fitness tests, key player will miss out v West Brom

Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Liverpool will be without Thiago for the game against West Brom on Sunday.

Speaking ahead of the Baggies’ visit to Anfield, as reported on the official Liverpool website, the Reds manager revealed that the club simply could not risk the Spaniard: “Thiago made his first steps back towards team training. He is not involved in the full session but makes good steps and after, unfortunately, the long time he is out now, we cannot and will not rush it.”

Thiago had previously been tipped to potentially make his comeback against West Brom, with the former Bayern Munich man now back in training.

However, the game against Sam Allardyce’s side has come too quickly for the midfielder.

Elsewhere, experienced midfielder James Milner and Xherdan Shaqiri will both face late fitness tests ahead of Sunday’s game.

A huge ask none the less

Should all three players go on to miss the game at Anfield, it remains a huge task for Allardyce and his squad.

The home side will have the opportunity to pull away at the top of the Premier League table on Sunday.

Liverpool have won three of their last five Premier League meetings, with some emphatic recent performances.

The champions eased past Crystal Palace, winning 7-0 at Selhurst Park, while they also put four past Wolves at the start of the month.

Meanwhile, West Brom come into the meeting at the other end of the form table – taking four points from their last five Premier League games. The Baggies have conceded 11 in their last five outings and scored just four times.
