‘Fraud’, ‘Horrendous’, ‘Shambolic’ – Many West Brom fans tear player to shreds at HT v Liverpool

West Brom fans have slammed defender Semi Ajayi for his first-half performance against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.

Sadio Mane opened the scoring in the 12th minute after a pass from deep by defender Joel Matip.

It was a good finish by Mane but it was made easy by Ajayi’s poor defensive decision-making in the build-up.

Ajayi was tight to Mane but stepped across him as the Liverpool forward controlled the ball and ended up allowing him all the time in the world to get a shot off at goal.

The Nigeria international has arguably been West Brom’s best defender this season but he really let everyone down with Mane’s goal as it was definitely avoidable.

Some fans on Twitter showed no sympathy towards Ajayi in the first-half with one saying that it was “horrendous defending” by the Baggies ace.

Here is a selection of their tweets:

Ajayi’s played very well when West Brom have taken on bigger teams in the division this season – all you have to do is look at the 1-1 draw away at Manchester City early this month.

Not only did the Nigerian force the own-goal to earn Albion a shock point at the Etihad but he won absolutely everything in the air and cut out Man City attacks what seemed like every minute.

He’ll be as disappointed as anyone that he allowed Mane to get that shot in at goal but there’s no time to make mistakes like that in the Premier League – especially when you’re up against one of the best forwards in the world.

In other West Brom news, this Albion loanee’s had his temporary contract terminated.
