West Brom want Everton player on loan in January, Toffees paid £27m for international – report
West Brom are interested in signing Everton striker Cenk Tosun on loan in the January transfer window, according to the Sunday People.
The newspaper reported via their print edition [December 27] that Sam Allardyce is keen to reunite with 29-year-old Tosun, who he signed for Everton in January 2018 for £27million.
It is understood that Allardyce also wants to sign Manchester United winger Daniel James on loan next month as he aims to keep West Brom in the Premier League.
What about Gallagher?
It seems the Sunday People have overlooked a very simple fact. West Brom already have one player on a domestic loan deal at the club in Conor Gallagher so they cannot sign both Tosun and James unless Gallagher is returned to Chelsea.
Based on how well Gallagher has done at The Hawthorns this term, there’s absolutely no chance that Albion will want to lose the battling box-to-box midfielder in favour of Tosun or James.
It would be quite a risk to sign Tosun.
The Turkey international has struggled at Everton with just 10 goals to his name in 56 appearances in all competitions. He’s neither scored nor started a game in all competitions for the Toffees this season.
However, Big Sam did manage to get some performances out of the former Besiktas striker during his time at Goodison Park. In 14 Premier League appearances under Allardyce, Tosun scored five goals.
Allardyce might know how to get performances out of Tosun and West Brom could do with improving their striker options.
We wouldn’t be against signing him but there’s simply no way the club should consider sending Gallagher back to Stamford Bridge in order to sign both Tosun and James.
In other West Brom news, Stephen Warnock has hailed this Albion player for his performance against Liverpool.
