Alan Shearer makes West Brom transfer claim after another heavy home defeat
Alan Shearer believes Sam Allardyce is facing the toughest job of his career after West Brom were beaten 4-0 by Arsenal at The Hawthorns on Saturday night.
Albion have now lost all four of their home games since the win over Sheffield United, conceding a staggering 17 goals in the process.
Three of those defeats have come under Allardyce’s watch, with the new Baggies manager yet to win a game since taking charge.
In order to keep West Brom in the Premier League, ex-Newcastle striker Shearer claims Allardyce will have to utilise the January transfer window.
“Sam said himself they’re conceding too many. 39 goals conceded, only scored 11,” Shearer said on BBC’s Match of the Day on Saturday night.
“He’s taken on some tough jobs in his time but I think this is probably the hardest.
“He’s going to have to do some serious work in the transfer window.”
Where does Big Sam start?
West Brom have issues all over the pitch and they’re not going to stop their plummet back towards the Championship by signing one or two players this month.
Albion’s squad simply isn’t good enough for the Premier League.
Only one or two players have shown they’re good enough for the top-flight this season. One of them is the goalkeeper and the other is only on loan from Chelsea.
Semi Ajayi and Dara O’Shea have had good games at centre-back but signing a new defender isn’t going to fix the issue of the midfield being so easily bypassed.
And then there are issues in the attack with Grady Diangana and Matheus Pereira failing to make the step up to the Premier League as well as we hoped and Karlan Grant is really struggling with life in the top-tier.
Albion won’t have a lot of money to spend this month so it could be a very frustrating window for Allardyce and the club’s fans.
