View: Major new West Brom injury will force Big Sam hand in January transfer window
Karlan Grant is out for the “foreseeable future” for West Brom due to a foot injury.
The forward sustained the setback against Leeds but initially hoped it was only a minor issue.
Unfortunately for the Baggies that doesn’t seem to be the case, and the 23-year-old looks set to miss a busy period, including the match against rivals Wolves.
Sam Allardyce has struggled for goals since taking over, with one scored in four games, so this news will only compound the current problems.
The former Everton boss admitted he wants a new striker this month – Grant has just one league goal this term – and therefore this news could force the manager’s hand in that department.
Since changing manager the Baggies have shown interest in the likes of Andy Carroll and Cenk Tosun.
Both have previously played under Big Sam and they also share a physical presence.
Their aerial prowess means they would offer an alternative option to players such as Grant, Charlie Austin, and Callum Robinson.
It is reassuring that Allardyce is looking to add goals to his team, but after he suggested signing a defender was the priority he must alter his transfer approach.
Goals are vital to Premier League survival, and that’s why a return of 11 goals in 17 games means Albion sit in the bottom three.
It is vital the club sign an accomplished striker this month with proven Premier League experience – a player who can offer more than what Grant has shown so far.
In other West Brom news, some Baggies fans are keen to see Nick Clayton-Phillips after his loan spell at Solihull Moors ended.
