West Brom line up Jan loan for £40k/wk PL attacker, frozen out at current club – report
West Brom are interested in the loan signature of West Ham winger Robert Snodgrass, according to the Express and Star.
With a dearth of creative options available to them the Baggies are said to be after the 33-year-old who has appeared just three times in the Premier League so far this season for a total of four minutes of action.
Snodgrass – on a reported £40k-a-week – would bring a wealth of experience alongside his attacking qualities after earning 28 international caps for Scotland before his retirement in 2019 while he has played over 150 times in the Premier League.
Seemingly out of favour at the London Stadium Snodgrass is expected to be made available in January with Express and Star’s Joseph Masi reporting that West Ham boss David Moyes is keen to reduce the size of his squad and lower the wage bill.
He also says that Snodgrass would fit the profile of signing Sam Allardyce is after at the Hawthorns, alluding to his positive influence around the Hammers dressing room.
Masi reports that Allardyce would prefer to sign him for a nominal fee if possible so that he can use his one other remaining domestic loan slot to bring in a player that will improve their spine, such as Leicester City’s Hamza Choudhury.
Putting them on a plate
He has not been able to leave any sort of impact in the Premier League this season but Snodgrass did score twice in the League Cup against Hull City and Everton before the Hammers went out 4-1 to the latter in September.
Given his age and lack of game time at a mid-table Premier League sides Albion fans are unlikely to be enamoured with the news that the club are lining up a move for Snodgrass, but he could prove to be an important source of goals if a deal can be completed.
Snodgrass registered five goals and five assists in the Premier League last season (per WhoScored), with this total coming in just 24 appearances of which 17 were starts.
That is a pretty impressive tally for someone that was not considered a key first team player and a glance back at the 2018/19 campaign shows he got another five assists that season too.
He may not be a blockbuster move that will dazzle the fans but a move for Snodgrass could prove to be a shrewd piece of business if the Baggies can secure him for a small fee or on a loan deal.
Snodgrass might just answer the cries for creativity.
