‘Fantastic’ – Paul Robinson blown away by major West Brom transfer update

Ex-West Brom left-back Paul Robinson is delighted to see reports claiming that Robert Snodgrass is set to join the Baggies from West Ham.

The Athletic has reported that Snodgrass, 33, is set to sign an 18-month deal with Albion after a nominal fee was agreed with the Hammers.

Snodgrass has played just four minutes’ worth of football this season for the London club but Robinson, 42, is over the moon that he’s set to join his former club.

“Great signing and a fantastic character to have around the place to lift the mood,” said Robbo via his personal Twitter account on Thursday.

Snodgrass an important signing for Big Sam

Not only will Snodgrass be Sam Allardyce’s first signing at West Brom but he also be one of the most important additions the Baggies make this season.

West Brom are struggling in the relegation zone and one of the major reasons why the club has done so badly this season is the fact there’s a lack of leadership and Premier League experience in the squad.

Everyone wanted to see the average age reduced over the last couple of seasons with fans saying their goodbyes to the likes of James Morrison, Chris Brunt and Gareth Barry. But while their exits led to a new, youthful look to the Albion side, it also led to an unwanted shift in the squad’s make-up.

Jake Livermore is the club’s captain but he’s been in and out of the picture this season and his red card against Aston Villa says all you need to know about the midfielder’s leadership abilities.

Semi Ajayi, Matt Phillips, Branislav Ivanovic, Kyle Bartley and Hal Robson-Kanu have all been handed the captain’s armband at some point, which suggests no one knows who is actually the most prominent leader among this bunch of players.

Snodgrass could be seen as captain material.

He’s a professional, hard-working player who always gives 110 per cent and has a lot of experience of playing for struggling Premier League teams.

He’s exactly what this West Brom squad needs before you even consider whether he’s going to be good enough on the pitch.
