David Gold sends Twitter message to Robert Snodgrass after West Brom announce deal
West Ham co-chairman David Gold has sent his best wishes to Robert Snodgrass after West Brom confirmed his arrival at The Hawthorns on Friday.
In an announcement on their official website, Albion confirmed that the 33-year-old winger has signed an 18-month contract in a bid to help Sam Allardyce’s side avoid relegation from the Premier League.
Gold also confirmed on Twitter that the “documentation has been completed” for Snodgrass’ permanent switch to the Black Country.
The Hammers chief also added: “Good luck, Robert.”
Snodgrass to the rescue?
We’re quite happy with the signing of Snodgrass and think that the West Brom squad is a better squad with him in it.
However, only signing Snodgrass is not going to keep the Baggies in the Premier League this season with Allardyce still needing crucial additions to the spine of his team.
Albion are leaking goals, failing to produce chances and not scoring enough. They need players in the defence, centre of the midfield and up front. One new full-back wouldn’t go amiss either.
Snodgrass doesn’t play in any of those positions naturally although Allardyce did tell West Brom’s official website that: “[Snodgrass] tells me he’s played holding midfield, left of a three, wide left and right, so he’s pretty versatile across midfield.”
Are we going to see Snodgrass play a more of a central role this season? David Moyes played him in the middle in his three Carabao Cup outings earlier in the campaign when he scored two goals and supplied one assist.
One of the biggest things about Snodgrass’ arrival though is his experience of playing for teams in this situation. He’s been relegated before and he’s also avoided the drop.
He’s exactly the type of character we need at the moment.
