LA Galaxy in talks to sign West Brom 27-year-old – report

LA Galaxy are in talks to sign rarely-seen West Brom goalkeeper Jonathan Bond, according to the Daily Mail.

Bond, 27, has failed to make a single appearance for Albion this season after David Button was signed in the summer to serve as second-choice goalkeeper behind Sam Johnstone.

Albion have already lined up a replacement for Bond with former Liverpool and Wolves goalkeeper Andy Lonegeran reportedly being signed as a new third-choice goalkeeper.

More lowering the wage bill?

It’s unlikely that Bond will have been on much money at West Brom as he’s a third-choice goalkeeper and not played a single league game in his two-and-a-half-years at The Hawthorns.

But we doubt that Luke Dowling would let Bond leave with Lonergan coming in unless it help the club’s finances a bit.

If Albion save a few thousand pounds a week by getting rid of the former Peterborough goalkeeper and replacing him with Lonergan then it makes sense.

Either way, Bond was always unlikely to play a game this season due to Sam Johnstone’s good form and Button’s being above him in the pecking order. And once he leaves and Lonergan comes in, it’s unlikely the new arrival would play a game either.

Bond really failed to impress us last season when he played in the cups and since Button’s arrival, Johnstone’s form has improved.

It goes to show that having a solid back-up option can improve your first-choice goalkeeper.

Bond was never that.

In other West Brom news, another Albion player is in advanced talks to leave this month.
