West Brom in advanced talks over big-name player loan exit – Sky Sports journalist

West Brom are in advanced talks with QPR over a loan return to Loftus Road for striker Charlie Austin, according to Sky Sports News journalist Mark McAdam.

Austin, 31, has struggled for game-time at The Hawthorns this season with the ex-Southampton striker failing to start a single Premier League game.

It is understood that he’s now closing in on a return to QPR, the club he played for between 2013 and 2016 with McAdam reporting the news via his personal Twitter account on Friday.

Bye-bye Charlie

Seeing that Austin is heading for the West Brom exit doors is no surprise due to his lack of game-time this season with the forward earning just five league appearances as a substitute.

Even though he joined as Albion’s marquee striker signing in the summer of 2019, Austin found himself below Hal Robson-Kanu in Slaven Bilic’s pecking order in the Championship.

Still, Austin scored some big goals for the Baggies and no one will forget his double against Birmingham to win 3-2 at St Andrew’s in a hurry. He did play quite a big role in us winning promotion if you think about it with some of his goals off the bench.

Austin’s deal with Albion expires in the summer so it is likely that he’ll leave on a free once his contract is up and QPR might want to re-sign their ex-striker permanently.

It makes sense because Austin’s one of the biggest earners at The Hawthorns. According to statistics website Spotrac, the ex-Southampton man earns a staggering £70,000-a-week.

Even though he’s going on loan, it’ll free up some of the wage bill to sign players who Sam Allardyce wants and will start in the Premier League.

In other West Brom news, Villa have joined the Baggies in the hunt to sign this proven Premier League goalscorer.
