West Brom ready to outbid West Ham to sign ex-PL striker – report
West Brom are one of two teams who are reportedly happy to pay £15million to sign Josh King from Bournemouth this month.
According to The Sun, the Baggies, along with Newcastle United, are happy to stump up big money to bring in the Championship forward.
King, who is out of contract at Bournemouth in the summer, is widely expected to move on during this window.
West Ham are also long-term admirers of the player, but the Sun claim that they are not willing to match the £15million that the other Premier League teams are willing to offer.
A sign of intent from Allardyce
If Albion were able to spend £15million on King during the January window, it would be a huge sign of intent from the club, as they look to battle against relegation.
Grady Diagana’s £18million move to join the Baggies from West Ham in the summer was a club-record move, so to be spending just shy of that in the new year shows that Allardyce really means business.
It was reported earlier in the week by Chronicle Live that Newcastle were not so keen to loan Andy Carroll to West Brom, because they did not want to strengthen a ‘relegation rival’ – so if the Baggies can beat Steve Bruce’s men to King, it would be a huge blow to the Magpies.
With 48 Premier League goals and 15 assists to his name, King has certainly proven himself in the top flight during his time at Bournemouth.
Towards the end of 2019, Transfermarkt valued the player as high as £19million, so could still be plenty of value in King at £15million for West Brom.
