Medical completed: Sky Sports journalist delivers update as West Brom 27y/o on brink of exit
West Brom goalkeeper Jonathan Bond is almost an LA Galaxy player after completing his medical with the club, reports Sky Sports’ Lyall Thomas.
The 27-year-old joined the club more than two years ago under Darren Moore, but has made just seven appearances for the club.
It seems Sam Allardyce had no plans to use him either, and has signed experienced shot-stopper Andy Lonergan as his replacement.
Thomas reports that Bond will sign a two-year deal with the MLS outfit but there has been no mention of the possible fee involved.
Boosting the coffers
Unfortunately for Bond and the club he offered no real value during his time at the Hawthorns.
His departure does not come as a surprise given Sam Johnstone and David Button were always ahead of him in the pecking order.
This deal could have some value, however, in terms of what it may lead to on the pitch.
If Allardyce is allowed to put his wages and potential transfer fee towards recruitment then we could see a benefit on the pitch.
Lonergan has arrived on a short-term deal so will be relatively cheap, providing Big Sam with the capacity to go after a much-needed striker or midfielder.
The move also shows that Allardyce is not holding back in his attempts to revamp the squad, having also signed Robert Snodgrass.
Charlie Austin has also been heavily linked with a loan move to QPR, and such transfer dealings hint that the West Brom manager is planning for the long-term.
