Gary Rowett shares Millwall verdict on Kenneth Zohore as deadline approaches
Millwall boss Gary Rowett has expressed his desire to extend Kenneth Zohore’s loan deal from West Brom, as reported by NewsAtDen.
Zohore joined the Championship side in October on a temporary basis but has barely featured after being sidelined with an injury for much of his Millwall spell so far, making only five appearances for the Lions.
However, he looks to have done enough to convince Rowett that he should be given an extended chance after scoring Millwall’s first goal in their 2-0 FA Cup victory over Boreham Wood on Saturday, with his current loan deal set to expire after their trip to Nottingham Forest on January 16.
After the game Rowett said that he is desperate to keep the Danish striker, as reported by NewsAtDen, saying “We haven’t really had that discussion yet because it’s more important for Ken to stay fit. If he stays fit then we’ll obviously ask the question.”
He added: “He’s going to be an important player and one we don’t want to lose.
“But we’ve spent a lot of money having him here and not available, so we also need to think about what’s sensible for us as a club.”
Back from obscurity?
With Charlie Austin’s departure from the club, the question remains on whether Sam Allardyce will bring Zohore back and take a look at him before deciding he can remain at Millwall for the rest of the season
Allardyce was not in charge when Zohore was allowed to temporarily leave the club and so he might want to assess his qualities before approving another move for the 26-year-old.
With Karlan Grant and Hal Robson-Kanu out injured the only senior striker in the squad is currently Callum Robinson who has not scored a goal since a brace in the 3-3 Chelsea draw on September 26.
Zohore did not have the most successful of starts to his Baggies career as he only scored three goals 17 Championship appearances last season, with many of them (12) as a substitute.
But with his strong stature and ability to hold the ball up Allardyce might consider keeping him until he secures a crucial January striker signing.
In other West Brom news, Allardyce confirms he is targeting a deal for this Championship forward.
