Reliable journo: Ex-West Brom boss suggests he’s likely to sign Hawthorns player
Sun journalist Alan Nixon has hinted that West Brom defender Cedric Kipre could make a January move to Championship side Blackburn Rovers.
Tweeting from his personal Twitter account, Nixon claimed Blackburn ‘must have a chance’, with Rovers currently in the market for a central defender.
Speaking after Blackburn’s FA Cup game earlier in the weekend, ex-Albion boss Tony Mowbray confirmed plans to bring in a central defender from a Premier League club had been delayed as a result of the competition.
Kipre was involved for the Baggies during their surprise defeat to Blackpool in the FA Cup third round.
Following his summer move from Wigan, he has found game time hard to come by and is yet to feature in the Premier League.
A good move for both parties
It has been a nightmare six months for Kipre following his move to the Hawthorns.
The Athletic reported back in December that Slaven Bilic was not a fan of Kipre and did not want the club to sign him.
Instead, it was Luke Dowling that pushed for the defender to join from Wigan after some impressive form in the Championship.
During the 2019/20 season, Kipre ranked inside the top 15 players in the entire Championship for the highest success rate of defensive duels, as per Wyscout.
The harsh reality for Kipre is that he simply may have just stepped up a level too far when he joined the Baggies.
In the few appearances he has made for West Brom, he has failed to impress.
Against Blackpool in the FA Cup, Kipre won just 33 per cent of his defensive duels and none of his aerial duels and a move away might be the best option for both parties.
