West Brom playmaker Matheus Pereira has responded to claims that he is unhappy at the Hawthorns this week.
The Athletic has reported that the Brazilian is unhappy over stalled contract talks, leading to suggestions he hasn’t been offered enough money.
Steve Madeley shared that some of the Albion squad have made their frustration clear with Pereira, who hasn’t hit the ground running under Sam Allardyce.
Writing on his personal Twitter account, the Brazilian admitted he wasn’t the happiest, but only because on matters on the field.
“Things are not always as they seem or how people portray them to be,” he wrote.
“It’s true I’m not happy! Not happy because of what our team is having to endure, not happy because of the lack of positive results because we try and try however have not achieved the results.
“I’m here I’m focused on doing my best to help the team in every way possible. I’m a professional, I have a winning spirit and winning will always be my main goal.”
This is exactly what we want to be reading.
Having said that, it is all well and good sending tweets, but you have to show it on the pitch, and Pereira isn’t doing that.
The 24-year-old has only featured 13 times in the Premier League, coming off the bench twice – both times under Allardyce.
The Albion squad has been shocking too though, and despite Pereira being part of that, he is outperforming them in areas such as key passes per game on WhoScored – completing more than double his nearest competitor.
Pereira is coming out swinging, but he must now show it on the pitch, starting against Wolves this weekend.
