Prolific West Brom target tells the Athletic its the ‘perfect time’ to move
West Brom target Kasper Junker has told The Athletic that now could be the ‘perfect time’ for him to make a big move away from Bodo-Glimt.
Junker has been heavily linked with a move to England and speaking to The Athletic about his future, he confirmed he is open to a switch: “The age I am now it’s the perfect time to make the next step but both (Jens Petter) Hauge and Philip (Zinckernagel) were there (at Bodo/Glimt) for more than one year.
“If I have to stay for one more year, then that’s no problem but it’s very good for the club and the players that big clubs come and look at our players because it shows that we are doing something right.”
The Athletic report adds that the striker is hoping to secure a move to England in the near future, amid a growing list of suitors.
TEAMtalk reported back in December that West Brom were among those eager to sign him, with Crystal Palace, Swansea, Middlesbrough and Bristol City also keen.
Bodo-Glimt have been something of a fairytale story after winning the Norwegian title, however, a number of their star players have since been snapped up by bigger European clubs.
A big risk for West Brom
Junker’s 28 goals in 26 appearances for Bodo-Glimt is not to be sniffed at, at any level, however, this would represent a huge risk for the Baggies.
The striker has only ever played in either Norway or Denmark and has not exactly set the world alight with his goalscoring form prior to the 2019/20 season with Bodo-Glimt.
With no experience playing in any of Europe’s major leagues, it would be a huge ask for the forward to come in and immediately provide the goals that will keep West Brom in the Premier League.
Karlan Grant is currently out for up to six weeks with a foot injury, so Albion need somebody to come in and hit the ground running.
Prior to his exploits last season for the Norwegian side, Junker had never scored more than six leagues in a single campaign.
He may prove to be a bargain for a club elsewhere going forward, but West Brom simply cannot afford to take such a risk.
