Report: Wage demands threaten to scupper loan deal for 24y/o as exit looms
Cedric Kipre is unlikely to move to Blackburn Rovers on loan with the Championship side unable to match the wage demands set by West Brom, according to the Lancashire Telegraph.
Kipre has struggled massively for game time at the Hawthorns this season, making only three cup appearances and none in the Premier League after his summer switch from Wigan Athletic.
He made his first appearance since September 22 on Saturday when he came on as a second half substitute for Branislav Ivanovic against Blackpool.
With the Baggies exiting the competition at the hands of their League One opponents that was expected to be Kipre’s last involvement for the club this season as he is seemingly not considered a viable option for the Premier League.
Blackburn have been the club linked most heavily to Kipre but the Lancashire Telegraph has reported that they are only able to offer up to half of his wages while Albion are expected to want most of it covered to give them additional funds for January signings.
Therefore a move to the play-off hopefuls looks unlikely for Kipre at this stage and could mean he ends up staying at West Brom unless another club stumps up the cash or the Baggies lower their demands.
Let him leave
If Kipre does indeed stay at the club beyond January then it is hard to see when he will next get to taste first-team action again.
There are at least four options ahead of him in the centre back ranks with the recent return of Kyle Bartley to the squad adding to Allardyce’s options while he will most certainly be trying to sign another in January to add more quality.
It has been a sad demise for Kipre at the club since he signed with that day looking like being the highlight of his short spell at the club so far.
Per Transfermarkt the defender actually has a contract until June 30 2024 but it his time at the club looks precarious currently.
If the worst does happen, though, and Allardyce is unable to inspire the Baggies to Premier League survival, then perhaps Kipre will be a useful addition in the Championship as the club will inevitably look to rebuild.
West Brom should make sure he is allowed to move on loan in January if there really is no room for him this season to uphold his value and his form ahead of the summer where he could be sold or retained for the coming season.
