John Percy shares major update on Filip Krovinovic future at West Brom
Filip Krovinovic’s loan deal at West Brom is being terminated, according to Telegraph journalist John Percy.
Writing via his personal Twitter account on Friday morning, Percy reported that the on-loan Benfica midfielder, 25, will have his temporary deal at The Hawthorns cut short and will then join Croatian side Hajduk Split for the rest of the season.
Percy adds that there’s also interest in Cedric Kipre, Kamil Grosicki and Rekeem Harper while Albion are still interested in signing Leicester midfielder Hamza Choudhury.
Krov failure exposes major Bilic mistake
Luke Dowling is the main man behind the transfer activity at West Brom but Bilic pushed very hard to sign Krovinovic from Benfica in the summer after his semi-successful loan spell at The Hawthorns last term.
The Croatian playmaker started just 24 Championship matches last season and yes, while he did have an impact off the bench, it was always hard to see how re-signing a midfielder who wasn’t deemed a key starter in the second-tier would be deemed good enough at all in the Premier League.
This just proves our previous point that Bilic picked fights that were either pointless or ones that he was never going to win.
The Daily Mail reported in November that Bilic’s relationship with the West Brom board started to turn sour when it took so long to re-sign Krovinovic in the last transfer window.
Why was Bilic so intent on signing someone who he failed to start every week in the Championship? Why was he willing to fall out with his paymasters over a player who as unproven in the Premier League?
The Krovinovic signing was pushed through by Bilic and clearly, since the Croatian playmaker return to The Hawthorns, he’s failed to impress in the Premier League.
Sam Allardyce doesn’t see a place for him in the side and rightly so.
Krovinovic is popular among fans but sending him back to Benfica and freeing up some of the wage bill is the right call.
In other West Brom news, Albion have offered this key player a new £45,000-a-week contract.
