West Brom miss out on striker target, £1m deal agreed – report
West Brom have missed the chance to sign Crawley Town striker Max Watters after the 21-year-old agreed a deal with Swansea City, according to The Sun.
The Daily Mail recently claimed that Albion had an interest in the League Two star after he notched 13 goals in 14 games this season.
It seems as though all hopes of securing his services have been dashed however with The Sun reporting that Watters is heading to Swansea City.
The report claims that Watters will undergo a medical with Swansea on Saturday ahead of the move with Albion yet to sign a forward this month.
It was always unlikely that Albion would have shelled out a seven-figure sum for a player who has never played in the Premier League.
Watters doesn’t fit the bill for the type of player Sam Allardyce is looking to recruit this month with Premier League experience a key factor in any potential arrivals.
Perhaps a young striker with something to prove could have been of use to us as we face a mighty challenge to avoid the drop.
But, we have seen that Big Sam doesn’t seem too keen on giving the youth a chance which again would suggest that he was never in favour of this transfer.
Albion still need plenty of faces to come through the door with only Robert Snodgrass arriving so far as a clear boost to the first team.
A new striker is imperative as goals have been hard to come by this season with Karlan Grant failing to cut the mustard in the Premier League.
Watters may not have been the answer but at this point, we need to take who we can get and the arrival of the talented young striker may have at least created some competition for the striker position.
