West Brom star tests positive for COVID, Steve Madeley shares chances of return v West Ham

West Brom keeper Sam Johnstone has tested positive for COVID-19 after missing the Premier League clash with Wolves on Saturday.

David Button stepped in and didn’t do much wrong as the Albion hung on for a memorable 3-2 win over the Dingles – only their second of the season.

Matt Phillips has also tested positive for the virus and continues the trend of numerous players returning bad results at once for the Baggies.

Steve Madeley reported on his personal Twitter account on Saturday, claiming that Johnstone has returned to training.

The Albion star could return against West Ham through the week, but the news wasn’t as clear on Phillips for Sam Allardyce.

“From what I hear (although I’m sure Allardyce will confirm) Johnstone wasn’t far away from being back today,” he said.

“Believe he has trained but obviously not quite over his bout. Hopeful for Tuesday, though. Not sure on Phillips.”

Johnstone has been the standout figure at the Hawthorns this season.

Before this matchday, no one had made more saves in the Premier League than the Baggies stopper, who has made 74 already.

The 27-year-old has faced the most shots though and has saved the Albion from embarrassing scorelines more often than not.

Despite Button having a solid Premier League debut, should Johnstone recover in time, it will be a no-brainer to start him against West Ham.
