West Brom are in talks over a deal to sign striker Mbaye Diagne on loan from Galatasaray, according to the Daily Mail.
Diagne, 29, has hit a scintillating vein of form in the Turkish Super Lig in the last couple of months, netting nine goals in his last seven appearances.
Sky Sports reported earlier this week after failing to sign Hoffenheim striker Ishak Belfodil, Albion have turned their attention to Senegal international Diagne with a loan-to-buy deal a possibility.
Diagne to save Albion?
West Brom have struggled to score goals this season.
Since his arrival from Huddersfield in the summer, Karlan Grant has scored just once while Callum Robinson has netted just two Premier League goals and both of those came against Chelsea in September.
Hal Robson-Kanu does a lot of hard work as a striker but is he a goalscorer? Absolutely not.
Diagne has shown in the last few months that he can score a lot of goals but there’s a huge gulf in class between the Premier League and the Turkish Super Lig.
Diagne has also had spells in China and Saudi Arabia in his career. That doesn’t bode well, in our opinion, as no one really comes back from those types of leagues and does any good.
We appreciate that the January transfer window is a difficult one that has been made even tougher due to COVID-19 and Guochuan Lai’s lack of investment in the squad.
But there have to be better options out there than Diagne. We’d struggle to see how he can be a massive improvement on what we’ve got.
In other West Brom news, Albion have offered this key player a new £45,000-a-week contract.
