David Ornstein delivers major update on West Brom takeover deal
British businessman Mark Campbell is not interested in buying West Brom, despite reports to the contrary, according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein.
The Daily Mail had said that the 47-year-old was heading up one of three consortiums who were interested in buying the Albion.
However, while the businessman is, according to himself, “very close to completing a €100 million deal for a club on the continent”, with more targets in mind, West Brom are not on the list.
In David Ornstein’s Monday column, he was quoted as saying, “I get sent dozens of clubs to look at because people know about my group but that doesn’t mean we’re interested, does it? If we bought an English club it would be one in League One or Two.”
Ornstein went on to say that interest in West Brom has been practically “non-existent” with Lai Guochuan trying to sell for £200m and experts saying the club is worth £130m-£150m.

Fantastic news
This will be welcomed by all West Brom fans who were worried that we would end up in the hands of someone that doesn’t have a good track record, to say the least.
Campbell has had to settle a sexual harassment lawsuit out of court [Scottish Sun], and his business Fairway Sports Capital Ltd is the subject of a winding-up petition.
The Athletic claims he has had more than 20 dissolved businesses over the last 20 years, that include hairdressing, property and taxis.
Fairway Sports Capital has yet to file any accounts but has already been the subject of a winding-up petition.
The Gazette shows that Alliotts have lodged a petition to wind up Fairway Sports Capital Ltd, who Campbell is the director of [Companies House].
It doesn’t look like Campbell would pass a Premier League test to take over the club even if he was interested.
The fact he isn’t is cause for celebration. The last thing we need now is to sell to an owner who is even worse than the one we’ve got.
