‘Should hit the ground running’ – Pundit urges West Brom to swoop for £45k/wk striker target

Emile Heskey believes West Brom should make a move for transfer target Joshua King in January.

It has been reported that Albion are interested in the forward, though they face a battle with West Ham to land his signature.

King’s Bournemouth contract expires in the summer but Heskey argues that now is the perfect time to bring him in.

Speaking to HITC, the former England international said, “He gives you that pace, that directness, he understands the league. He’s an international player.

“I think they (West Brom and West Ham) should be looking at someone like him.

“Getting him at this part of the season, he should hit the ground running because he knows what it’s about.”

Adding firepower

The squad is in desperate need of a new striker this month, as we simply cannot rely on Callum Robinson and Hal Robson-Kanu to score the goals to keep us up.

As a result, targeting King is a very positive step, and we’d be keen to see him signed now.

He established himself as a Premier League player after joining Bournemouth in 2015, scoring 48 goals in 168 top-flight games for the club.

He knows where the goal is, and he would provide the combination of pace, as Heskey references, and experience to our left-flank.

Moreover, if we don’t make a move now we could lose out altogether.

West Ham will likely be able to offer King a higher salary if his contract runs down until the summer.

We think King ranks higher compared to other attacking targets like Haris Seferovic and Mbaye Diagne because of his Premier League know-how, and his arrival could boost the squad as well as fan morale.

Hopefully, Luke Dowling backs Sam Allardyce by bringing in the £45,000 a week player.
