West Brom to battle two relegation rivals for Jesse Lingard – report
West Brom want to sign Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard on loan this month, according to Mail Online.
Sam Allardyce is keen to bolster his ranks with as many new players as possible this month and a new name has been added to the list of potential targets.
Lingard is out of favour at Old Trafford and he hasn’t started a Premier League game for over a year with the 28-year-old heavily linked with a move away this month.
According to Mail Online, West Brom, Newcastle United and Sheffield United all want to secure the services of Lingard for the rest of the season.
The report claims that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will decide Lingard’s fate after the Red Devils’ FA Cup clash against Liverpool.
The Man United boss may want to keep Lingard at Old Trafford if his side progress as this will add to an already congested fixture list.
Lingard isn’t the most inspiring name that Albion have been linked with this month as in recent years he hasn’t shown the quality he once possessed.
If Albion truly are targeting Lingard, it could hint that our reported interest in Leicester midfielder Hamza Choudhury is over with the club only allowed one more domestic loan.
Either way, we still need more players through the door in the final days of this window and if Big Sam is still looking for players with plenty of Premier League experience then Lingard fits that bill.
However, the 28-year-old has no knowledge of a relegation fight having spent his career challenging for a top-four space at Old Trafford.
We will have to see if Man United manage to progress in the FA Cup as it seems that the result against Liverpool will heavily influence the decision to allow Lingard to leave.
Even then we face competition from a club who are currently out of the relegation zone and boast a manager who has strong ties to Manchester United in Newcastle United and Steve Bruce.
It wouldn’t be the end of the world if we missed out on Lingard, as long as someone else comes in.
