‘I’m not convinced’ – Roy Hodgson reacts to West Brom-Christian Benteke reports
Roy Hodgson has claimed that West Brom have made no contact with him over the signing of Crystal Palace forward Christian Benteke.
Sky Sports journalist Rob Dorsett reported that the Baggies were in talks over a short-term deal for the striker, but admitted his lofty wages could be a problem.
Despite being out of contract in the summer, Hodgson admitted that he’s “not convinced” that Palace are interested in letting him leave this month.
Speaking to Sky Sports on Monday, Hodgson cast serious doubt over the Belgian international leaving Selhurst Park this month.
“To be honest, Christian is in our team at the moment so I didn’t know that Sam had been talking about that, but he’s not spoken to me about it.
“I don’t quite know who you’re speaking to, it must be somebody else at the club so I can’t fill you in more than to say, Christian Benteke is still part of our team here, so I’m not convinced the club are interested in letting him go.”
Another option chalked off?
West Brom have been linked with nearly every single striker in Europe in the past three weeks, with Sam Allardyce having no luck so far.
Haris Seferovic of Benfica was one of the latest names to come up at The Hawthorns, but the Swiss forward looks set to remain in Portugal.
Allardyce confirmed his interest in Benteke this morning, but he did admit that it would be down to Luke Dowling to see if he is available.
Nothing appears to be straight forward this month for the Baggies, first the Robert Snodgrass deal, and now the struggle to bring in a forward.
This one is going down to the wire.
