Prominent Belgian journalist delivers major WBA transfer update after Big Sam confirms interest

Sam Allardyce confirmed that West Brom would be interested in a move for Crystal Palace striker Christian Benteke in January.

Talking on Monday, as quoted by BBC journalist Simon Stone, Allardyce said, “I am not sure if Christian is available. If they came to me and said he was available… I am not sure that is the case at the moment. If he is available I would be interested, everybody knows I am interested in a front man.”

However, prominent Belgian journalist Kristof Terreur poured cold water on these hopes almost immediately when he replied to Stone’s post saying, “He’s not available.”

Back to the drawing board

Terreur has impeccable sources in Belgium and with Belgian players and this sounds pretty definitive.

It means that it’s back to the drawing board for Big Sam with less than a week to go before the January window shuts.

After that, the only option for more goals would be free agents.

We’re sure that West Brom will get someone, but with each big-name option getting shut down, it looks like it’s going to involve taking a gamble on someone unproven in the Premier League.

Allardyce said that a move for Andy Carroll is a “non-starter” and it looks like Benteke is the same.

There were plenty of West Brom fans who weren’t convinced about Benteke in the first place. Come the end of the window, that view may have changed.
