West Brom have advantage in hunt for PL midfielder – report

West Brom are one of the two main candidates in the chase for Leicester City midfielder Hamza Choudhury though Albion may have an advantage, according to David Ornstein

Choudhury has been continuously linked with a move to The Hawthorns all January but the Foxes are yet to make up their mind about whether to let the young midfielder leave the King Power Stadium this month.

Newcastle United and Albion are the two clubs leading the hunt for the 23-year-old but the managerial situation on Tyneside could give the Baggies the edge.

Ornstein claims that the uncertainty around Steve Bruce’s immediate future casts doubt on whether the Magpies will move for the in-demand midfielder.

He also claims that Fulham and Sheffield United have expressed an interest in Choudhury but Ornstein made it clear that Albion are still interested and leading the chase.

This transfer saga could do down to the final days of the transfer window with Brendan Rodgers still undecided on whether to let a vital back-up player leave on loan.

This could complicate things as, according to Mail Online, Allardyce wants to bring Manchester United man Jesse Lingard to the club.

Albion only have one domestic loan space left which means the club can only sign one of Lingard and Choudhury.

If the Foxes leave it too late then Albion may be forced to swoop for Lingard which would rule out a move for the player who has been heavily linked with a Hawthorns switch all January.

It would make sense for Big Sam to target a midfielder after allowing Filip Krovinovic’s loan spell to be terminated.

There are sure to be more twists and turns in the final days of the window as Premier League clubs make late decisions over the futures of their fringe players.

Albion will be looking to capitalise and bring in a few more faces but only one of them will be from the Premier League.

In other West Brom news, there’s been a major Christian Benteke development after he was linked with a move to The Hawthorns.
