‘Collapsed’ – Reliable journalist delivers major West Brom transfer update
West Brom reportedly have their eye on Feyenoord’s Nicolai Jorgensen, but Italian journalist Gianluigi Longari suggests a deal has collapsed.
Albion have widened their striker search to the Netherlands following news that Andy Carroll and Christian Benteke are unlikely to arrive at the Hawthorns.
Now it appears the same can be said of Jorgensen, with Longari reporting the deal is dead “at the moment”.
That hints at the possibility of West Brom making a new and improved offer for the attacker, who was signed by the Dutch club for £3.1million in 2016.
A sign of desperation
There is under a week remaining in the transfer window and it appears as though West Brom are growing more desperate in their attempts to sign a striker.
We have gone from targeting attackers with Premier League experience to Jorgensen, who has scored just three goals in 13 league games this term.
And that was at a lower standard than the Premier League.
At 30 he would be a short-term gamble but definitely not one worth taking, even though he is reportedly earning only £12,000 a week.
Jorgensen would not be an upgrade on our current options, with his best days seemingly behind him.
That is because his biggest strength is his height, and the fact he has won 2.2 aerial duels per game (WhoScored).
Aside from that, his goalscoring record is not good enough, as is his dribbling rate of 1.2 per game and a pass accuracy of just 76%.
His performances in the Eredivisie show he will not be able to cut it in the Premier League.
It smacks of desperation since we have been unable to obtain our primary targets, and that is a worrying sign with just days left in the transfer window.
In other West Brom news, a Premier League rival has made a move for another Albion target.
