Joseph Masi details how many signings Big Sam wants at West Brom in last few days of window
West Brom boss Sam Allardyce is growing increasingly concerned when it comes to January signings, reports Joseph Masi.
The Express & Star journalist suggests Big Sam is still aiming to make two additions in the few days remaining in the transfer window.
That number has reduced from the three arrivals he wanted after Robert Snodgrass signed, with the Albion manager revealing the club has missed out on multiple targets.
As reported by the Express & Star, Allardyce said: “It’s the last week so I’m not that confident, to be honest with you.
“There have been a lot of players who we felt we were close with and then other clubs appeared who were more attractive to that player.
“Sometimes it’s fallen down because we are not in a position to buy a player outright at this moment in time.”
Letting down Big Sam
Allardyce likely arrived at The Hawthorns with the expectation that he would receive backing in the transfer window.
So far that has not happened, and that is a crying shame.
Yes Robert Snodgrass and Andy Lonergan have arrived, but there are clear inefficiencies in the squad that need addressing.
They are big problems too in the heart of defence and in attack – we simply don’t possess a top-level goalscorer currently.
Our inability to address Big Sam’s priorities have held us back so far, and threaten us with relegation.
Allardyce has a track record of keeping teams up but he has been able to do so partly because of his astute transfer business.
He has not had the same luxury this month, and will seemingly have to work with a group of players that have brought him just one win in seven games.
That is not good enough, but with the window closing on Sunday it seems we may be stuck with what we have.
