‘Records in China show…’ – BBC journalist details major new twist in West Brom ownership puzzle

There’s been a new twist in the mystery surrounding who actually owns West Brom.

BBC Radio WM broadcaster Adrian Goldberg has reported via his personal Twitter account that Guochuan Lai doesn’t hold more than 2 per cent of shares in the companies that own the Black Country club yet he’s described by the Albion as a “majority shareholder”.

Chinese group Yunyi Guokai Sports Development Limited bought Jeremy Peace’s 88 per cent majority stake in West Brom in 2016 for £200million. Back then, the Guardian reported that Lai “controls Yunyi Guokai Sports Development Limited”.

However, Goldberg’s research suggests that may no longer be the case and the Albion ownership puzzle continues.

Is this where Yasha Ge comes in?

Goldberg and Chris Lepwkoski have been doing superb work on the Liquidator podcast in recent months as they uncover what is quite a ridiculous situation regarding the Albion ownership.

In November, ex-Birmingham Mail journalist Lepkowski reported on the Liquidator podcast that financial data gathering company Orbis suggests Ms Yasha Ge is in fact in control of the Premier League club.

Lepkowski has regularly tweeted to say the Premier League are yet to verify who is actually in charge of the Baggies at this moment in time.

Either way, it’s not something we want to see happening at the club.

While having a quiet owner has it’s perks, we still want someone who will at least speak up about major issues at the club and confirm whether they’re the actual owner or not.

Something fishy is going on behind the scenes and that could be why there’s an urge to sell the club now with the Daily Mail reporting that three different parties are bidding to buy the Albion.

In other West Brom news, Albion want to sign a Premier League midfielder who Roy Hodgson called a “class player”.
