Big Sam states what he will accept as a ‘minimum’ from West Brom in January transfer window

Sam Allardyce was on the warpath after last night’s 5-0 humiliation of West Brom at the hands of Man City.

He kept the media waiting after locking the players in the dressing room at The Hawthorns.

When he emerged he said the desire is there in his West Brom players but that too many mistakes are being made.

He also made it very clear that new players are needed in the last few days of the transfer window.

With the window shutting on Monday, Allardyce said that he needs two players at a “minimum”. Allardyce also apologised to the Albion fans.

His words were relayed by journalist Matt Critchley.

Crucial days ahead

West Brom are in trouble. A 5-0 hammering from Man City that in reality could have been much, much more, has made clear the size of the task facing Sam Allardyce.

Anyone hoping for a new manager bounce won’t take much succour from the fact that West Brom have conceded 17 goals in the four home games since Big Sam took over.

Goals for in those four games? Zero.

The next week is going to define our season. The next two games are against relegation rivals Fulham (Saturday) and Sheffield United (Tuesday).

Two wins would give us a huge lift and could leave us level on points with Brighton in 17th place in the table.

Two defeats would surely condemn us to the Championship.

In between these two games, the January transfer window shuts. Allardyce wants two players “minimum” and we’re worried about what will happen if he doesn’t get those two signings.

We know it’s not easy to bring in quality players in January, but our Premier League survival depends on it. Big Sam must get what he wants.
