‘From what I hear…’ – Reliable journo claims WBA ready to release attacker on free transfer

West Brom are willing to let Kamil Grosicki leave on a free transfer in January six months before his £40,000-a-week deal expires, according to a prominent Polish journalist.

Grosicki has been out-of-favour at The Hawthorns all season after coming close to joining Nottingham Forest in October.

He did, however, make a start against Wolves in the 3-2 Molineux victory on January 16 and followed this up with another at West Ham three days later.

But he was left out of the squad that lost 5-0 to Manchester City on Tuesday and this has led to renewed speculation over his future.

Polish journalist Tomasz Włodarczyk told his 86,000+ Twitter followers: “From what I hear, the WBA is ready to give him [Grosicki] away for free six months before the contract expires.”

Furthermore, Polish outlet Meczyki, who Włodarczyk works for, have reported that his outing against Wolves has cost Albion a further weekly £15,000 with his wages now standing at £40,000 per week.

Show him the exit door

This is a startling report that would place Grosicki as Albion’s third highest earner after Kieran Gibbs and Jake Livermore, per figures by spotrac.

With only three Premier League appearances this season and seemingly well out of Big Sam’s plans despite his recent involvement in the side this is an expensive waste of vital resources that could be used to attract a new signing.

With the likes of Matheus Pereira, Robert Snodgrass and Conor Gallagher at the club Albion seem well-stocked in the attacking midfield area and further chances for Grosicki look slim.

His first-half performance in particular showed he does have some usage as he injected a bit of pace with his direct-running abilities against Wolves but he clearly lacks the quality of the aforementioned Snodgrass and Pereira.

At 32-years-old his best days are behind him and West Brom would do well to shift him on as soon as possible.

The issue is his high wages and whether any club would be willing to take them on.

A deal might have to be done whereby Albion pay a portion of his wages for the remainder of his contract but even this would release some much-needed funds to recruit in other areas of the pitch.
