Report: Agent claims player could be set for new contract amid interest from West Brom

Christian Benteke’s agent has claimed his client could receive a new deal in light of the interest from West Brom, as reported by the Daily Mail.

Sam Allardyce has expressed an interest in his former player, with the Belgian out of favour at Crystal Palace.

The 30-year-old’s contract expires at the end of the season.

That factor plus the arrival of Jean-Philippe Mateta this month hinted that Benteke may have been free to leave, but this latest development is a setback for Albion.

Benteke’s agent, Kismet Erit, said, “I rather think the club are hoping to get Christian to sign a contract extension, who will be free in June.”

Benteke not the one

It was a disastrous Tuesday night for the Baggies but things look slightly brighter on Wednesday.

West Brom were interested in Benteke but it looks like Big Sam has now found his man in Mbaye Diagne.

The jury will be out on Diagne in the Premier League but it’s a start.

Big Sam has had his work cut out in bringing players into the club with no money and no capacity to make permanent deals without a relegation clause.

It looks like we might have had a positive effect on Benteke’s career, though, if Palace are moved to offer him a new contract.

Meanwhile, at West Brom Allaradyce has said he wants a minimum of two new players in and time is running out.

Even if we add just two players to a squad that had picked up just one league win prior to January, questions need to be asked.

Chief among them is why wasn’t money made available in the summer when we could have brought in stronger players?
