Medical complete this morning: Player on his way to sign for West Brom – report

Mbaye Diagne completed a medical in Turkey this morning (Thursday) ahead of joining West Brom on loan for the rest of the season, according to DHA.

The Turkish news outlet claims the 29-year-old forward underwent medical checks at “Galatasaray’s sponsor hospital” and will now head to England to finalise his move to The Hawthorns.

Sky Sports has reported that Albion will be signing the Senegal international on an initial loan deal with the option for the deal to be made permanent.

Deal all but done

Sam Allardyce has had to wait quite a while to get a new centre-forward in at The Hawthorns but it seems that it’s now just a matter of when, and not if, Diagne will officially become an Albion player.

If we’re very honest, we have reservations about the striker.

Yes, he’s done very well in Turkey with him scoring 51 times in 64 Super Lig appearances for both Kasimpasa and Galatasaray but since moving to Galatasaray in January 2019, he hasn’t scored against any of the top teams.

He’s also a nine-times Senegal international with zero goals, had spells in China and Saudi Arabia, fallen out with his manager while on loan at Club Brugge and not played in any leagues better than Belgium or Turkey.

Sky Sports has reported that Diagne “has been playing as a lone centre-forward and is a sizeable presence up front, a very good finisher who has also shown an ability to drop deeper and link up play”.

That is the kind of striker Allardyce needs in his squad but can he score the goals?

If he’s not hit the target against Turkey’s best teams at Galatasaray, what hope does he have against even some of the more average Premier League sides?
