Steve Madeley delivers exciting WBA transfer update as Big Sam closes in on midfielder deal
Okay Yokuslu is now likely to join West Brom on a straight loan deal after the 26-year-old snubbed a potential permanent clause, according to Steve Madeley.
The Celta Vigo midfielder has been linked with a move to The Hawthorns for the majority of the January transfer window but it seems a deal is now imminent for the Turkey international.
The Athletic’s West Brom reporter Madeley reports that a sticking point to the deal was Yokuslu’s reluctance to agree to a compulsory purchase clause at the end of the season given the uncertainty surrounding the league Albion will be playing in next season.
Understandably Yokuslu is keen to protect his future but Madeley says that will prove no barrier to the completion of a straight loan deal which is now likely to happen.
The Baggies now have less than four days until the transfer window slams shut so they will have to ensure there are no more hiccups in negotiations to ensure a successful transaction.
Stage is set for Yokuslu to prove himself
Yokuslu’s stance is typical of players eyed by relegation-threatened sides in January.
Albion’s position in the Premier League looks precarious given the measly two wins they have picked up this season sits them seven points off of Brighton in the last survival spot.
As such it is hard to argue against the desire of Yokuslu to protect himself in the likelihood West Brom do suffer their expected fate and make an immediate return to the Championship.
The negative of this is the theory that the player might be open to downing tools if things do not go his way as there is no return guaranteed for next season but desperate times call for desperate measures and Big Sam cannot afford to be picky at this stage of the transfer window and with the club at such a low ebb.
The need for a combative midfielder is great with Romaine Sawyers and Jake Livermore struggling to cope with the rigorous demands placed upon them.
As a bit-part player for Celta Vigo Yokuslu should be desperate to prove his worth irrespective of his future at the end of the campaign, especially with a European Championships to look forward to with Turkey in the summer.
