West Brom make approach to sign player who almost joined Wolves in summer – reports

West Brom target Ainsley Maitland-Niles almost joined Wolves in the summer and Albion now hope to sign the Arsenal player on loan, according to the Express & Star.

Sam Allardyce can secure one more domestic loan deal before the end of the month with Conor Gallagher taking up one of the two slots in the squad.

And it is understood that Big Sam wants 23-year-old Maitland-Niles to fill that slot with talkSPORT adding that Albion have made an approach.

However, it is understood that Arsenal have reservations about sending the versatile England international on loan to a club threatened by relegation.

Cover in plenty of areas

One of the things that this West Brom squad lacks is strength in depth and if Maitland-Niles arrives on loan from the Emirates, he’s someone who could offer a lot of that.

He would more than likely be a regular starter but the fact he plays in multiple positions would give Allardyce a variety of options for the England ace.

Maitland-Niles can play on both sides as the defence as a full-back or wing-back and can also play on both wings or in the centre of the midfield.

While Albion do not massively need any new wingers, they have needed to upgrade their full-back options since winning promotion and the Arsenal utility man could do that.

Unfortunately, it seems as though a deal will be tough to reach because of West Brom’s lowly Premier League position but it would be nice to get him when Wolves were snubbed in the summer.
