‘Makes things happen’ – Danny Murphy awestruck by ‘Super important’ WBA star v Fulham
Danny Murphy was left awestruck by the performance of West Brom playmaker Matheus Pereira in the 2-2 draw against Fulham on Saturday.
The Brazilian assisted Kyle Bartley’s initial equaliser at The Hawthorns and went on to put his side ahead with a cute finish in the second half.
Murphy believes that Pereira will be “super important” to the Albion’s chances of survival in the Premier League this season – something that is evidently obvious.
Speaking on live coverage of the game on the BBC, Murphy showered Pereira in praise after his match-changing display in the second half.
“He makes things happen,” he said.
“He kept finding himself in this position. These are the types of areas where we saw that I liked, where he scores and creates goals from.
“They struggled to handle him in the second-half Fulham, and he got his rewards with the goal. He’s a player that going to be super important for them if they are to get out of this mess – they’ve got to keep him fit.”
Pereira was magnificent in the second half.
It was hard to praise any Baggies players in the opening 45 minutes, as they were simply outclassed, but when they needed someone to step up, Pereira was that man yet again.
The Brazilian demanded the ball in central areas and pushed Fulham back, and as Murphy said, they couldn’t cope with his directness and flair on the ball.
Pereira completed four dribbles according to WhoScored, more than anyone on the pitch, as he was at the heart of everything positive.
Murphy was spot on, and Pereira must continue this form.
