‘Poor man’s Diagne’, ‘Waste of a wage’ – Many West Brom fans react to striker transfer report
West Brom have reignited their interest in Crystal Palace’s Christian Benteke, according to The Sun.
The report has left many Albion fans puzzled, as Mbaye Diagne was brought in on loan just a few days ago.
Diagne put in an impressive display on his debut on Saturday and showed attributes that are not too dissimilar to Benteke.
Both possess height and strength and some supporters feel that their style of play is too similar for them to form an effective partnership.
It is a surprise twist as Roy Hodgson suggested Benteke was a part of his plans.
However, given the Belgian’s contract runs out in the summer it is possible West Brom have approached Palace with a new offer.
The Sun’s report indicates a short-term move is on the table.
That would allow Palace to save more than £1million in wages, with Benteke reportedly on £120,000 a week.
He would be an expensive addition and some fans cannot see Benteke signing since we have just one domestic loan remaining.
Some supporters have instead expressed a desire to see a defender added to the squad.
