‘Real character’ – Hoddle assesses West Brom performance v Fulham
Glenn Hoddle claims West Brom showed ‘real character’ in their 2-2 draw with Fulham as Albion threw away a late lead.
After going behind in the first half, the Baggies rallied and put themselves in a 2-1 lead before a late Cottagers goal meant the points were shared.
Hoddle pretty much summed up our season as he delivered his verdict on the game as while there were bright moments, ultimately we were not good enough.
Speaking on BT Sport’s Premier League Today programme (January 31, 11:00), Hoddle said, “West Brom came and showed some real character.
“They got themselves back in a 2-1 lead. They created some chances and actually took them. It’s a great finish from Bartley, a centre forward’s finish really.
“But they kept plugging away and they get themselves back in the game and you’re thinking ‘can they hold on then’ and they couldn’t.”
Character will not be enough to keep us up this season.
Results will get us out of this mess and at the moment it is hard to see Sam Allardyce picking up many of those in the coming weeks.
We had to beat Fulham to really boost our survival hopes and after claiming that our next two games would define our season, Big Sam has to make sure that we pick up three points against Sheffield United.
That Blades side is having a torrid season but in the last week they’ve beaten Manchester United at Old Trafford and very nearly snatched a draw at The Etihad.
If we play like we did in the first half against Fulham then we could be out of it by half time.
The feeling is that if we lose against Chris Wilder’s side then that will be curtains for us so the importance of our midweek game cannot be overstated.
In other West Brom news, we have reportedly been handed a major boost in our hunt for another forward.
