West Brom enter hunt for Premier League defender, 21y/o played 270 mins in EL – report
West Brom have entered the hunt to sign Tottenham central defender Japhet Tanganga, according to the Express and Star.
The newspaper have reported on their website that the Baggies would be interested in taking the youngster on loan for the rest of the season.
It is suggested that Sam Allardyce would like two new signings before tomorrow’s deadline, with Celta Vigo’s Okay Yokuslu expected to be the other.
Tanganga was handed his debut by Jose Mourinho last season but has found opportunities starved since the arrival of Joe Rodon.
The 21-year-old hasn’t played a single minute of Premier League football this season and will be desperate for playing time elsewhere.
Mourinho has instead used him in both competitions and the Europa League, with those chances potentially returning in February.
Last season, Tanganga started six Premier League games, and those chances have appeared to have disappeared completely.
Allardyce admitted after the Fulham game that he would “love” one of his two signings to be Arsenal’s Ainsley Maitland-Niles.
Big Sam did claim that the chances of that happening were unlikely with others interested, and it appears as though the Albion have switched their attention quickly.
With only one day remaining, Luke Dowling will need to move quickly or face missing out on key reinforcements for the remainder of the season.
Tanganga can play centrally in defence and at full-back, similar to Dara O’Shea, with that versatility something that Allardyce clearly likes and wants.
