David Ornstein shares major West Brom update on Maitland-Niles, ‘deal should get done’
West Brom are set to complete the loan signing of Arsenal wing-back Ainsley Maitland-Niles on Monday, according to David Ornstein.
The Athletic journalist has reported on his personal Twitter account that the Baggies have reignited their interest in the 23-year-old, and the deal “should get done.”
Southampton and Leicester were both also interested, but either the Gunners or the player himself didn’t want that move to be completed.
Ornstein claimed that as late as just yesterday, West Brom looked set to miss out, so this appears to have changed very quickly.
Sam Allardyce admitted after the 2-2 draw with Fulham on Saturday that he would “love” to sign Maitland-Niles as his last domestic loan spell.
The Baggies boss also claimed that it was unlikely, so Luke Dowling and his team can take mountains of credit for turning that around.
Maitland-Niles has made his senior England debut under Gareth Southgate and featured regularly for the Gunners in the past few seasons – this is a major coup.
The 23-year-old has started five Premier League games and also come off the bench six times this season, so he hasn’t been fully kept on the sidelines.
Maitland-Niles has international, Europa League, and Champions League experience – Allardyce will be delighted to get this over the line.
