‘I’ve just been told…’ – Rob Dorsett shares Maitland-Niles update live on Sky Sports

Leicester City are out of the running to sign West Brom target Ainsley Maitland-Niles on loan from Arsenal after the England international had a meeting with Mikel Arteta, according to Rob Dorsett.

Mirror journalist John Cross has reported that Maitland-Niles, 23, is most likely to join the Baggies on loan for the rest of the season after interest from Leicester and Southampton.

Sky Sports journalist Dorsett now reports that Arsenal are not willing to let Maitland-Niles join a rival in their bid to qualify for European football and that Arteta had a meeting with the versatile ace on Monday morning.

“He’s definitely on Leicester’s list and has been for some time but the very latest I’m hearing is that Arsenal are not prepared to let Maitland-Niles go to Leicester because they consider Leicester one of their rivals for the top six positions,” said Dorsett on Sky Sports News on Monday [02:26pm].

“If he’s going to go on loan, he’s going to go somewhere else and I’ve just been told, just before I came on air, that Maitland-Niles had a meeting with Mikel Arteta this morning and we’re getting details of what was discussed in that meeting and we’ll get back to you on it.”

AMN on the way?

Maitland-Niles can play in a number of different positions with the 23-year-old play both right-back and left-back, in wing-back positions, on the wings and as a central midfielder at Arsenal.

He’s made 21 appearances in all competitions this season, which is a good amount of game-time for an up-and-coming player but with the European Championships taking place in the summer, you can understand why he’d want to play even more.

Maitland-Niles has started just five Premier League matches and for West Brom to be winning the race for his signature, Sam Allardyce must have promised that the London-born ace will be played regularly in his starting line-up.

Albion need as much extra depth as they can get before the transfer window slams shut at 11pm.

Maitland-Niles could be a very clever last-ditch addition in the Black Country.
