Medical complete: West Brom set to complete major deadline-day signing – Sky Sports
West Brom took a step closer to the signing of Okay Yoskuslu, with Sky Sports (Transfer Centre 01/02, 09:26) reporting that he has completed a medical.
The midfielder looks set to join on loan from Celta Vigo until the end of the season.
Now the 26-year-old awaits paperwork to be completed for a visa that will allow him to move to England. His medical took place in Spain.
He has reportedly said goodbye to his teammates and was left out of Celta Vigo’s squad at the weekend, so it looks like his arrival is imminent.
A much-needed addition
Sam Allardyce finally brought in a striker last week and Mbaye Diagne showed how useful he can be against Fulham.
The match on Saturday also reiterated something else – the need for defensive reinforcements.
We have targeted Tottenham defender Japhet Tanganga, but even if he signs the defence still requires some midfield protection, and that is where Yokuslu comes in.
The Turk may prove to be the most valuable addition this transfer window.
At 6 ft 2 he is an imposing figure in the same mould as Claudio Yacob, a player we have not replaced since his departure.
An average of three aerial duels won per game (WhoScored) is evidence of his physical dominance, but he is adept on the floor too.
Throughout his career Yoksulu has managed 2.2 tackles and 1.8 interceptions, a better return than any of our current midfielders have achieved (WhoScored).
He would be an upgrade, and his La Liga experience should mean he can cope with the best talents the Premier League has to offer – he has come up against Lionel Messi among others.
Hopefully this deal is completed in time for our match against Sheffield United, as keeping a clean sheet in that clash could lay the foundation for a vital three points.
