Medical scheduled: West Brom agree another major new signing – Sky Sports journo
West Brom have agreed a deal with Arsenal to sign Ainsley Maitland-Niles on loan for the rest of the season, according to Rob Dorsett.
Writing via his personal Twitter account on Monday afternoon, the Sky Sports journalist reported that Maitland-Niles, 23, will undergo a medical in London in the coming hours before sealing his temporary switch to the Black Country.
Deal all but done
Albion are closing in on yet another new signing.
Celta Vigo midfielder Okay Yokuslu seems set to join the Baggies on loan from Celta Vigo [Daily Mail] with the deal yet to be confirmed by the club.
Yokuslu and Maitland-Niles seem as though they’ll be deadline day arrivals at The Hawthorns, joining Andy Lonergan, Robert Snodgrass and Mbaye Diagne in heading to the Premier League strugglers this month.
Maitland-Niles covers plenty of positions with his ability to play on both wings or in both wing-back roles but it seems as though he’ll be used as a midfielder.
Whether or not signing these players will be enough to help keep the Albion in the Premier League remains to be seen but there’s no denying the squad is in a better shape now than it was when Big Sam took charge in December.
Slaven Bilic and Luke Dowling failed to recruit enough quality in the spine of the squad while a lack of leadership was overlooked.
In Snodgrass, Albion have found leadership. In Yokuslu, they’ve strengthened the midfield and in Diagne, they’ve potentially added a goal threat as well as a striker to bring players like Matheus Pereira and Grady Diangana into play more.
In Maitland-Niles, there’s youthful exuberance and versatility.
We’re excited to see how he gets on in blue and white stripes.
