'Two main problems' - Spanish football expert delivers verdict on potential West Brom signing

West Brom are close to signing Celta Vigo midfielder Okay Yokuslu but there are some problems with his game, according to Spanish football expert Alvaro Montero.

Rob Dorsett of Sky Sports reports that the midfielder has completed a medical ahead of his deadline day move to The Hawthorns.

Speaking on Sky Sports’ Transfer Talk programme (Monday, 13:00), Montero delivered his verdict on the signing and highlighted two key flaws in Yokuslu’s game.

He said, “There are two main problems. Firstly, he is not a player that makes a lot of goals. For example two goals in the last season.

“He has a very huge problem that he can make three or four in a row extremely good games and the very next week play extremely bad.

“He is not very regular and not a very predictable player. Although he is very physical and I think he will fit perfectly in the Premier League.”

That final line delivers some hope but everything that came before it doesn’t exactly fill us with confidence.

We need players who can consistently perform as we fight against relegation, the last thing we need is a player who has a tendency to go missing.

The fact that he doesn’t score lots of goals isn’t a huge concern though goals have been hard to come by this season.

That is why we signed Mbaye Diagne and are hopefully close to bringing another forward in this month.

If this assessment is correct then it doesn’t look like this is Sam Allardyce’s finest moment in the transfer market but we have to give the player the benefit of the doubt.

He arrives at the club with a clean slate are far as we are concerned.

But if these aspects of his game do creep into his performances we can’t say we weren’t warned.
